  	Woodson was killed in action on 1 February 1945. It is likely that his death occurred while his division was moving east into the Saar-Moselle Triangle, an area disputed between France and Germany. He was 30 years old.

  	On 2 August 1948, David Newsom made application for a U.S. Military Veterans headstone for his deceased son, Woodson. The stone was approved on 15 September 1948, and subsequently placed at Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery in Haywood County, Tennessee in remembrance of Woodson.
