  	Guilford resided in Edgecombe County prior to enlisting in Beaufort County at age 22, Jan 28, 1862. He entered the regiment on Mar 10, 1862: NC Civil war troop "The Edgecombe Boys", Co E 43rd Regiment. Wounded in the elbow at or near Bethesda Church, VA on May 30, 1864, he returned to duty in Sep-Oct 1864. Guilford was promoted to Corporal on Nov 1, 1864. He was captured at Petersburg VA, Mar 25, 1865; confined and later released from Point Lookout, Maryland on Jun 22, 1865.
