  	At the death of Col. William Craford in 1762, the major portion of his lands and unsold Portsmouth Town lots went to George and Thomas Veale. The year 1763 saw Portsmouth's first annexation, when Thomas Veale's inherited property was added to the town, extending the western boundary to Chestnut Street. That same year Portsmouth Town Trustees were named. This group was composed of Andrew Sprowle, George Veale, Thomas Veale, Charles Steuart, Humphrey Roberts, Francis Miller, James Rae, David Purcell and Amos Etheridge.

  	Thomas served as one of the two Norfolk County representatives in the Virginia House of Burgesses, the lower body of the Virginia General Assembly, during the 1761 - 1765 session. It appears that the Norfolk County Burgesses, Thomas Veale and William Bradley, were not seated until January 1762 due to election problems.

  	Thomas' will appointed his sons William Craford Veale & Thomas Veale, his son-in-law James Cann and Capt. Samuel Veale as executors of his estate. He signed the will of 8 August 1793. His signature was witnessed by Walter Willis, John Quarles and John Owens. The will named grandsons Thomas Veale and Nathaniel Veale who have not yet been identified.

  	Thomas' will was proved before the Norfolk County Court by Walter Willis on 16 December 1793 and by John Owens on the following day. The document was ordered recorded.
