  	Thomas was admitted as a pensioner [paid his own way] of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, on 8 July 1623. He received his B.A. in 1626. He was elected a Fellow of Emmanuel College in 1630, at which time he commenced his M.A. In 1637 he took the degree of B.D. and was appointed as one of the twelve university preachers.

  	Between 1638 and 1660, Thomas served in many capacities: minister of St. Mary Colechurch, London, a donative of the Mercers' Company; professor of divinity at Gresham College, London president of Queens' College, Cambridge [1644-1660], In 1649 he was created D.D. at Cambridge, and on 9 Aug 1652 he received a D.D. from Oxford.
