  	In a letter "To the Com'rs of the Customs" in London, dated 24 October 1710, Lieutenant-Governor Alexander Spotswood, announced his acceptance of the resignation of Col. William Wilson as Naval Officer of the Lower District of the James River due to poor health. According to the letter, Wilson had served as Naval Officer for "several" years. The letter stated that Wilson had recommended Mr. Nicholas Curle as the new Naval Officer for the Lower District. The letter did not note that Curle was Wilson's son-in-law.
