An entry dated 20 February 1717/18 in Book I of the Concord Registers states "Whereas ye hand of God [hath] come forth against ye Inh[abitants of] Concord in a very awfull [manner] sending a very malignnt distemper amongst us...." and goes on to list the names of 27 people who had died between 30 November 1717 and 20 February 1717/18. The 14th person named was "Widow Abigail Hosmer".
