  	Edward and his wife Dorothy signed a note at Plainfield, Connecticut on 28 October 1720 addressed to the Middlesex County, Massachusetts Court of Probate stating that they would release Dorothy's dower right in the Estate of her deceased husband William Barker in exchange for "ten pounds money". Edward signed the document by mark. Mention is made of Dorothy and Edward Spalding in the final disposition of the William Barker estate on 25 May 1721.

  	A Hannah Halle and John Spalden were married at Chelmsford Village on 18 May 1658. By tradition, this Hannah has been acknowledged to be Hannah Heald, daughter of John and Dorothy Heald of Concord. John Heald's 19 April 1662 will names his daughter only as Hannah, not stating her married name. However, her marriage prior to the date of her father's will is indicated by the statement made in the will that settlement had already been made upon her.

  	The couple was married by the Reverend Mr. Joseph Estabrook in Concord on 23 October 1705. Edward was a widower, with five children, at the time of this marriage. The marriage register entry notes that Edward was "of Plainfield" and that Dorothy was "of Concord". Following the marriage, Dorothy and her four children by her marriage to William Barker journeyed with Edward to his home in Plainfield, Connecticut.
