  	By 1775 Joseph owned the property across the road from his brother, Ephraim. A cider mill which had originally stood across the road from Ephraim's house was moved westward and made into a dwelling for Joseph and his family.

  	Joseph built Temple's first store about 1770. He operated it until its sale to a Mr. Winn.

  	Joseph enlisted in the Continental Army at the outbreak of the Revolutionary War. He marched to Concord on 19 April 1775. Before the men from Temple arrived at Concord, the British had retreated, and the Temple troops proceeded to Cambridge.

  	Joseph served as a Temple town officer on four occasion. He was Constable in 1783, 1789 and 1790. In 1787, he was one of the town's three Tythingmen.

  	"Joseph Heald was found suspended by a rope in his barn. He had become deranged". He was 61 years old at the time of his death.
