  	According to family tradition, Addie died of food poisoning after having eaten preserves given to her as a gift by a neighbor. Death certificates for Lenoir County are extant only to 1914, but the description of her death in her obituary supports the theory of botulism as the cause. She was 36 years old.

  	Addie's funeral service was preached by Rev. J. D. Bundy, pastor of Queen Street Methodist Church. The service was held at 5:00 pm at the Randolph home on Queen Street in Kinston, North Carolina.
