  	John & Isabell Curle [I4472, I4473] of All Saints Parish, Lewes, have been suggested as the parents of Nicholas and his three proven siblings. I, however, believe that there is a gap of, at least, one generation between these families.

  	The records of St. Michael's Parish note that Nicholas served as the churchwarden during 1632. The task of a churchwarden in the Anglican Church was to assist the priest in secular matters. The first mention of Nicholas in the "Town Book of Lewes" notes his appointment on 3 Oct 1625 as one of the two Headborowes for the following year. A headborowe was an assistant Constable. Nicholas formally accepted the post on 20 Oct 1625. Between 1644 and 1663, Nicholas served as one of the Twelve for the Borough of Lewes seven times. Boroughs were towns and villages that had been granted royal charters giving them the powers of local government. The governing body of a borough was known as "the Twelve". On 4 October 1647 and on 2 October 1659, Nicholas was chosen as one of the two Constables for the borough.
