  	There were two individuals bearing the name Samuel Langley who resided in the Tanner's Creek Precinct of Norfolk County, Virginia during the middle 1700s. One of the men resided on the north side of Tanner's Creek, while the other lived on the south side. Each Samuel died intestate. Few primary sources exist for either man. Details attributed by TwT to each man's life have been deduced from a careful examination of Norfolk County tithable lists, guardian accounts and marriage bonds.

  	Samuel died after the taking of the 1770 tithables, when he was listed as Samuel Langley, Sr, and charged with a total of 8 tithables including himself, his son Nathaniel Langley, Willis Denby and five slaves, but prior to 21 Mar 1771, when his daughter Abby was named in Norfolk County Court as the "orphan of Samuel Langley".
