5053	Dr. Howard G. Hanson of northern Georgia, USA, is the author of two royalty books of poetry, Ageless Maze and Future Coin or Climber. Her most recent volume, Under the Diamond Pulse, was published in December, 2009. A graduate of Vanderbilt University with a PhD in Comparative Literature, Howard is retired after a career in college teaching and as co-founder and registrar for the Dianne Mize Studio, a private art school originating in Clarkesville, GA, but becoming the Art Studio at Sautee Nacoochee Center. Biography Dr. Howard Gordon Hanson was born in Colorado, Texas, in late 1931, the first child of an Episcopal minister; but because of a sick younger brother she was raised mainly by her artist grandmother. She was taught to read at age three, and by four was allowed to paint in oils; by ten she was writing in blank verse, trying to catch up with her father, who was also a poet. At five she began piano lessons at her mother's insistence. So she got an early start in the arts and in reading. In time she earned a BA in Science and a PhD in Comparative Literature from Vanderbilt University, and began her teaching career. But this direction lasted only ten years because of post-polio syndrome. Subsequently, with her partner, Dianne Mize, she founded an art school for adults teaching Art History and Renaissance Portraiture, from which she retired in 2007. Throughout all these years she wrote poetry. And so her most recent book, Under the Diamond Pulse, taken along with her two earlier royalty book publications, Ageless Maze and Future Coin or Climber, represents a life perceiving and recording her world as it unfolded.
